Community Service

Valuable learning experiences also occur beyond the classroom and the mountain. All Academy students are expected to participate in one of our Community Service projects.

Designed to give something back to our community, tap into unknown talents and take time to gather everyone together, these events usually create strong memories for our students. All students are expected to spend a few days skiing or riding with the younger members of the Mt. Mansfield Ski & Snowboard Club and serve as role models and mentors to these aspiring skiers and riders. Our other projects change every few years and vary from services provided to Lamoille County senior citizens, donations to the Lamoille County Food Shelf, improvements to the Lamoille Nature Center, winter festivals for MMSC families and Project Linus.

Project Linus – a community service project that’s been a part of MMWA for over a decade, teaches the skill of machine and hand sewing to our students so that they may make quilts. These child-size quilts are then given to local children in area hospitals and have even been delivered to children in war-torn Iraq.

Enviro Challenge – Initiated in 2008-09 by past teacher, dorm parent and MMWA graduate Shelly Martin, we’ll involve students in our school-wide recycling program and ask for their assistance in achieving improved energy efficiency.

My experiences at MMWA have changed my life, creating who I am today and sculpting who I will be tomorrow.  MMWA was the best college prep experience possible, handing me college responsibilities in a high school setting.
