Which school provides the work and what curriculum do the students have?
Mt. Mansfield Winter Academy does not have a set curriculum. Our faculty members teach the material presented to us by the teachers of the student's sending school.
In September we send material to each Academy student requesting them to submit forms to their teachers/guidance counselors. Each teacher must provide detail on the course curriculum and state his/her preference for the method of teaching. The sending school teacher has the option of providing all material (e.g., quizzes, tests, assignments) or accepting the material of the MMWA teacher at the end of the academic session.
Can students keep up with their work with so much training and racing?
Yes, it's a delicate balance that asks a lot of the student and careful coordination between MMWA teachers, administrators and MMSC coaches. Students do have assigned study hall time in their schedule and must make productive use of that time. Boarding students have scheduled, supervised study time in the evenings as well.
My experiences at MMWA have changed my life, creating who I am today and sculpting who I will be tomorrow. MMWA was the best college prep experience possible, handing me college responsibilities in a high school setting.
