Nordic program 2010-2011

The Mt. Mansfield Winter Academy is pleased to announce that it has established a Nordic program for the 2010-2011 academic year to compliment the existing alpine and snowboard programs. It is expected that 6-8 athletes will be enrolled in the first year applying the same mission, philosophies, governance and infrastructure that has contributed to the success of the existing programs. The program at MMWA will provide an alternative option to Nordic athletes wanting to take their pursuits to the next level and become a feeder program to the competitive college circuit. For further information and an application please call 802-253-7409 extension 300 or email at mmwa@mt-mansfield.com.

Program highlights

  • Ryan Kerrigan and Robyn Anderson have been named coaches of the MMWA Nordic Program.  Assisting them will be Mary Stewart.  Ryan and Mary attended UVM and Robyn (a Stowe native) was at Middlebury.  All three raced on the Carnival circuit for 4 years.  Ryan and Robyn spent this past winter assisting local athletes while continuing their own racing on weekends and teaching skiing at Trapp's.  Mary is pursuing her master's degree in Education at UVM where she was a 3-year captain of the women's Nordic team.
  • Daily on snow training and coaching (12:30 - 4:30). Trapp's is the host venue and is a strong attraction based on their snow making capabilities, extensive trail network and reputation for hosting some of the top nordic events in New England. In addition, there are several other nearby training venues for on snow and dryland training.
  • Competitive race schedule to include New England JOQ races, US nationals and JOs and other local and regional races.
  • Dryland training (core, cardio, strength...) 3 nights per week at local health club.
  • Daily classes at the MMWA from 7:45 to 11:45. In-house teaching staff will utilize student's sending high school curriculum.
  • Transportation and race support at NENSA JOQ qualifiers and other local and national races.
  • Pre-season training camp (November/Thanksgiving) at West Yellowstone or Canadian site depending on snow.
  • Assistance and monitoring of students college placement activities and off season training programs.

My experiences at MMWA have changed my life, creating who I am today and sculpting who I will be tomorrow.  MMWA was the best college prep experience possible, handing me college responsibilities in a high school setting.
