2007-2008 Winter Sessions
Mt. Mansfield Winter Academy operates five months of the year giving athletes and their parents a viable option to full year programs. In this way, students may live at home the greater portion of the year, attend their local schools and compete on equal ground with other elite athletes while maintaining a high standard of education.
Session 1 - November 4 - March 28
This session is recommended for J1 & J2 athletes who plan to participate in the MMSC pre-season on-snow camp. Students will spend time organizing academics, setting up communication with faculty and spend concentrated time in classes before departing. This session allows for early training preparing them for December race series while also taking them through the majority of the spring race series. Each year the fall training trip is rotated from North America to Zermatt, Switzerland. Along with MMSC coaches, necessary teaching staff travels with this group to facilitate academics. The fall trip for 2007 will take place in Colorado or Canada (expenses for the trip are an additional cost above tuition/room & board fees).
Session 2 - November 25 - March 28
This session is recommended and available for ANY student athlete. It is predominantly attended by J1-2-3 alpine, snowboard and freestyle athletes. A training camp in Nakiska runs over Thanksgiving break for alpine skiers to coincide with the start of this session. Snowboard and freestyle athletes travel to Colorado in mid-December (both camps are an additional fee).
Session 3 - January 3 - March 14
This session is available to 8th grade students ONLY in any discipline. It is designed to give younger athletes and their families the ability to experience the Academy setting and level of commitment the program entails.
Important - please note!! Due to race schedules and travel time, there is NO FEBRUARY VACATION for MMWA students. Please do not make travel arrangements expecting your son/daughter to be excused. We rely on this week to either catch up or get ahead so students will be prepared to re-enter smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation on this!
